Originally the new game as known as shooting around the clock, this was because of the shots were taken from the hour positions on an imaginary clock drawn on the ground with the targets being thrown from the 12 o'clock position. Over the next few years the layout of the field changed, mainly for safety reasons and to allow it to be built on less ground space. The current fields are very similar to the ones used in 1925.
In 1926 original founder William H Foster was convinced that the new sport would be popular with many outdoor enthusiasts that he completed a shooting program that contained all the elements of wing shooting. In February of that year the idea was introduced to the public in both National Sportsman, and Hunting and Fishing magazines. At the same time a contest was run to come up with a name for the new sport. The first prize of $100.00 was won by Mrs. Gertrude Hurlbutt of Dayton, Montana, who suggested the name "Skeet", an old Scandinavian word meaning "to shoot".
The names listed below are the local skeet club contacts in Saskatchewan. Please feel free to get in touch with any of these members to arrange a free introduction to the sport.
